Burscough lies in Lancashire, midway between Liverpool and Preston. It is a large village of nearly 9,000 people and straddles the Leeds-Liverpool canal

There are lots of things to do in and around Burscough, such as going to Martin Mere which is part of the Wetlands and Wildfowl trust and where Autumnwatch is filmed - Nick especially recommends visiting when Kate Humble is in town!

A great way to while away a day is to do the Rail Ale Trail. Board the train in Burscough and head to Wigan or Southport. You can get on and off just as many times as you want while you sample the beers and warm welcome in all the pubs along the line. Nick, Dean & Anders (aka Uncle Anteater) did it a year ago and had a thoroughly brilliant time - if only they could remember any of it!

Without doubt the best pub in the area, at least in Nick's opinion, is The Ship Inn on Wheat Lane. It's a great canal-side setting and the food is really good - be warned, though, ordering the large fish'n'chips will mean you are served with moby dick in batter - not recommended for those with small appetites!
